The Block PowerMini and Block PowerCompact series are the first products that Block Transformatoren-Elektronik GmbH is producing in the new, further developed corporate industrial design. The main new feature is the colour scheme: for this and future series of units, the previous colour canon of blue and orange has been supplemented by a grey, which is now an integral part of the brand appearance.
As an industrial designer, I was challenged in the choice of colour to find a shade that harmonised with the existing RAL colours and could be derived from the existing corporate design. The shade of grey was developed from the blue of the Block brand.
After a series of tests under a wide variety of lighting situations in the lighting laboratory, the grey for Block’s corporate industrial design was finally selected from AkzoNobel’s ACC 4041 collection.
Against the widely held opinion “We can only do RAL!”, the implementation was easier than expected due to the selection of the right suppliers. The result is another convincing component of the Block brand image. Here, the dialogue between development, production, marketing and sales as well as the pursuit of a consistent design strategy has once again proven its worth.
